How did you choose your school name?
As a practitioner, I used to go to Jiu-Jitsu class each day with a million things on my mind. During that 1 hour class, all of my daily concerns disappeared as I truly focused on one thing - jiu-jitsu. When I opened my own school I loved the name Atlas because whenever my students are training the weight of the world is taken off their shoulders and they can concentrate on something they love.
How long have you been teaching?
9 years.
Who or what inspires you?
My professors Julio Fernandez and Rodrigo Medieros inspire me. Both of these men are legends and still work everyday teaching jiu-jitsu and spreading the art. They lead by example.
What is something special or unique about your school and/or students?
Our atmosphere is unlike any school I’ve ever trained at. As cliche as it sounds, everyone is family and everyone takes care of each other. To top it off we produce champions and help others accomplish goals they always thought impossible.
What made you choose FUJI Mats for your facility?
I have worked with [FUJI Mats Owner] Jimmy Pedro for years buying uniforms and have always appreciated his help and expertise.
What is the most rewarding part about working in the martial arts field?
Helping people change their lives in a positive way. I have watched jiu-jitsu literally save lives. It’s unbelievable.
If you could give one piece of advice to other martial art school owners what would it be?
Work! Work! Work! Never get complacent.
