Martial Art: BJJ, Muay Thai, Combatives & Judo

How did you choose your school name?

The Compound suggests that there are always different additives to create new substances. We are non-lineage affiliated - always bringing new styles to add to the overall goal of increasing the complexity of our Martial Arts programs.

How long have you been teaching?

Less than 1 year.

What is your student creed or mission statement?

"The Compound is a martial arts school built on a foundation of Self-Defense and 3 main pillars - BJJ, Muay Thai, and Military/Law Enforcement Combatives. We seek to study and teach these martial arts, encourage the integration of different styles of each, and ensure seamless integration into any Self-Defense/Combat scenario or Competition circuit.

Regardless of background, The Compound aims to provide professional-level martial arts instruction and a premium facility to the community. The Team’s goal is to use martial arts as a vehicle to enable each individual to reach their maximum human potential."

Who or what inspires you?

The Community. People shouldn't have to sacrifice personal safety for less time with their children or families just to pay the high-dollar costs of learning a life skill such as Self-Defense.

What is something special or unique about your school and/or students?

Our diversity. We have so many cultures ranging from East-to-West African, European, Asian, White-Collar, Blue-Collar, and even Autistic children that raise our level of social and emotional intelligence transcending Martial Arts' primarily-physical focus. Our Adult Teammates range from 19-year-old Junior Olympians in Track & Field to mid-60-year-old Public Service Electricians, and Day 1 Beginners to International Competitors and Champions - a true testament to the culture of diversity, acceptance, and overall goal to help lift each other up to reach potential they didn't realize they could reach.

What made you choose FUJI Mats for your facility?

Premium quality and excellent customer/employee engagement during the design phase.

What is the most rewarding part about working in the martial arts field?

Helping others push themselves further than they realized they could go.

If you could give one piece of advice to other martial art school owners what would it be?

Mission First, People Always. Financial Profits are a side effect of doing the right thing in business. Your Members are Human Beings with real goals - NOT just another monthly payment.

SDVOSB providing a premium Training Center that is free of Martial Arts politics and aiming to help each individual reach their maximum potential.
